Not all the cabs are yellow in colour - London cabs are Painted with black color - but its distinctive colour can be a classic for taxis. In New York City, the taxis are yellow because of the initial rules adopted in the late 1960s, but the method that allowed the first yellow taxi to run on the streets had already begun much earlier.

Why Taxis are Yellow?
In 1915, John Hertz, a Chicago entrepreneur, opened the yellow cab company in his hometown. To unify his fleet, Hertz had commissioned a university study of the region to "scientifically verify that the yellow colour would stand out the strongest from a distance," according to his biographer and that the yellow would prevail.
(colour researchers still agree that yellow is the most visible colour, although some said it was a chartreuse colour that the attention simply detects.)

The story does not take into account the fact that countries with yellow taxis had already appeared in many cities in Germany before 1915. Albert Francis Charles Augustus Norman Emmanuel Rockwell was already operating a fleet of a yellow taxi as early as 1909. include the yellow machine Co. in New York in 1912. If Hertz chose yellow for scientific reasons, the legend says that Norman Rockwell was only the distributor, his partner Nettie, of the World Health Organization, the most appreciated color.
