can we use desert sand for construction

Sea sand is not used for construction because the shape of the sand particles affects its density and stability as well as its overall engineering behavior. Sea sand has Smooth rounded particles that would offer less resistance to rearrangement than normal sand, Normal sand has angular or elongated with rough surfaces.

Sand can be classified into three types according to the grain size: coarse, medium, and fine. Determining these fractions is important because they affect the technical characteristics and performance of the sands as road layers in terms of plasticity, strengthand bearing capacity.

Sea and desert sands rarely meet the requirements of traditional specifications for use as a building material, especially in their untreated state.

The grain of desert sand is finer and smoother, so their surface chemistry would not be able to offer a sufficient number of multidirectional chemical bonds. If their grain size is too small, the grout slides and the concrete would have low resistance. The desert sands have an open structure and there is a small lock between the grains of sand. If this sand is kept dry, these connecting bridges offer considerable bearing strength. But if the sand gets wet, the bridges soften and when they are overloaded, the bridges break and collapse.

What Is the Reason For Not Using Sea and Desert Sand For Construction?

Sea sand also tends to be very fine and rounded. In seawater, chloride is present, which will cause corrosion of steel and iron, which will ultimately lead to a reduction in the carrying capacity of steel and iron, so that the structure constructed using it might not be durable ... Sea sand does not have high compressive strength, high tensile strength, etc. therefore it cannot be used in construction activities. In addition to that, the salt in the sea sand tends to absorb moisture from the atmosphere.
