Start by offering a 
few spoonfuls each day and introduce one new food at a time, every day, to monitor allergic reactions such as diarrhea, rashes or vomiting, before switching to a new food. Parents with food allergies should discuss their problems with their pediatrician. While foods are tolerated, continue exposing your baby to various foods. Some children may need multiple exposures to a new taste before they can enjoy it.

Textures are very important for introducing foods. Most babies prefer to start with softer, smoother textures and gradually move to thicker foods.

Start solid foods safely

Hold your baby upright in your lap and have him sit upright and face-to-face when introducing solid foods for the first time. This makes swallowing easier and choking less likely. Then place your baby on a secure high chair.

Speak in a soft and encouraging voice while you are feeding. There is no need to be entertaining. Babies are easily overwhelmed and distracted by games.

Never give your baby solids through bottle-feeding. This can put you at risk for choking.  Always prefer spoon into a bowl, not into the bottle or bowl feed, unless your baby finishes it during this feeding. The direct feeding of the bowl can introduce bacteria from your baby's mouth into the spoon and into the food, which creates a problem of food safety. If your baby is still hungry, take more food from the jar by using a clean spoon.

Baby First Foods 4-6 Months:

  1. The rooting reflex helps your baby turn to a nipple for nourishment.
  2. Breast milk or formula milk ONLY
  3. Your baby's digestive tract is still developing, so solid foods is banned at the moment.
