Why criminal face is covered during hanging |
Hanging a prison is the suspension of a person by a noose or
a ligature around the neck. Suspended by the neck, the weight of the body
serves to tighten the noose around the trachea and the structure of the neck,
causing strangulation and death. This usually takes between ten and twenty
minutes, with loss of consciousness within 6-15 seconds.
Why Face is Covered Before Hanging
Face covered at the time of hanging up because the classic sign of strangulation is the presence of small blood marks on the face and in the eyes from broken blood capillaries. The tongue can protrude. This will distort the face.
To reduce the risk of shock and discomfort for the
executioner, the magistrate, and other officials present at the time of
execution, they cover the face of the accused with a black cloth.
