What is the Small Pocket on Jeans Called?

The small Pocket inside jeans is traditionally called the fifth pocket, hence the term "five-pocket jeans".
When blue jeans were introduced in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the fifth pocket was created to hold a standard size pocket watch, the chain is held in place by the small loop. Of course, this was the time when pocket watches were not a spectacular accessory, but a regular addition to most men's everyday clothing. The small pocket protected the watch from scratches and was small enough to hold it in place without fear of losing it.
Nowadays, most people have the time of a wristwatch (or their phone!), So why keep the fifth pocket? The simple answer is a tradition. a nod to the days of old. I like these little traditions, which are found all around us if you look closely enough ... but again, I am old-fashioned.

The fifth Pocket can simply be ignored or used in modern life. Some ideas to store in the fifth pocket are subway tokens, coins, hair elastics, lucky tokens, iPhone shuffles, or love notes.

The tiny pocket inside the pocket is for watches, designed for cowboys of the 1800s. But as we are in 2016 and we are not usually cowboys, these pockets have taken on new forms.
